Lobby

At the start of the game, you will find yourself in the lobby where you can see the other players on the left and ongoing games on the right. In the middle is a big chat area you can use for chatting with other players. On top of the game area there are gaming options that you can adjust to your likings.

Select an opponent from the player list on the left and then press "Challenge Player". If your opponent accepts the challenge, the game will start. Other players are able to challenge you as well. If you are challenged to play a game, it will be displayed above the chat area and you can choose to accept or decline the challenge.

If you want to watch other people play, select an ongoing game from the list on right and press "Watch Game".

Playing for coins

You can also gamble with Backgammon, i.e. play for coins! In gambling mode, both players will place a certain bet and the winner takes the whole pot.

If you want to play for coins, select the option "Play for coins" at the top of the game area, after which you can select the bet for the game. A little coin icon will be displayed next to your nickname in the player list, to inform others that you are a true gambler!

In this mode, you can only challenge players that place bets too.

Game screen

The game board is loaded once a game starts. Under the board is a chat screen you can use to talk with your opponent. Opponents and their remaining time to make their move, are displayed on the left. On the right is a control panel containing a variety of options depending on the game situation.

Both players see the game board with their home board aligned at lower-right edge, so you'll always play counterclockwise.

Playing the game

The basic rules of Backgammon are not described here. If you're not already familiar with the game, you can find the rules from Wikipedia, for example.

At your turn, first, roll the dice by clicking 'Roll'. If 'Autoroll on my turn' is selected, rolling the dice happens automatically on your turn and no 'Roll' button will be displayed. You can also roll the dice by right-clicking on the game board.

There are couple of ways to make your moves. The default is to first click the point you want to move from and then to click the point you want your pieces to move to. If 'Automove (greatest move first)' is selected, it suffices to only click the column you want to move from. Your pieces are then automatically moved the greater distance.

You can also move your pieces by dragging them. Click the point you want to move from and drag-n-drop your piece to the point you want to move it to.

When you're finished making your moves, you must pass on the turn to your opponent by pressing 'Accept' - or by right clicking the game board. Even if you cannot move any checkers, you must pass on the turn, unless you have turned on the setting 'Autoaccept (on no moves)'.

Time limit

There is a limited amount of time to make your move. If the time runs out, the player's personal time (displayed below the player's profile) will start decreasing. Once this time has run out too, the player will lose the game.

While the time is reset on each turn, the player's personal time will only be reset at the start of the game. This allows players to use a little extra time for the more difficult moves.

Doubling cube

Additionally, when playing games for coins, the player holding the doubling cube can ask to double the score and bet. First, doubling can be suggested by either player, after that the doubling cube is given to the other player who can then ask for the next doubling.

If you want to double, make sure that 'Autoroll on my turn' is not selected. You'll then have a 'Double' option at the start of your own turn. Press 'Double' to request doubling the bet.

If a player suggests doubling the bet, the opponent is asked to accept the doubling - when accepted, game score and possible bet is doubled and the doubling option is moved onto the player who accepted the doubling. If the opponent doesn't accept doubling, he/she will lose the game immediately!

The greatest possible doubling factor is 64-times, after which even the player who is holding the doubling cube cannot try to double it any more. It's not possible to double bets if one of the players does not have the sufficient amount of coins for doubling.
